APRIL 1999 REPORT FOR

During April the more near-IR NSOM data was collected. The first real
specimen imaged was 300nm diameter beads at a source wavelength of
1760nm as seen in the Figure 1 below. Furthermore, using the EOSI tunable
source, a spectrum was taken of these beads and compared to the
spectrum obtained in a traditional spectrometer. This data served to
confirm the operation of the NSOM instrument.
In addition to completing experiments with the near-IR NSOM, the X-band
NSOM instrument was constructed and preliminary data was collected. The
preliminary data looked very promising and a complete experiment is almost
complete. The basic results and setup of this experiment will be discussed in
further detail in next month's report.
