Display and Promotion

Depending on where the patient goes to purchase an ovulation prediction kit, she may have a difficult time finding them. Some stores display them near the feminine hygiene products or near the pregnancy test kits near the pharmacy. This makes them accessible to the customer and allows the pharmacist to provide counseling on the proper use of the kits. However, some stores do not display them with other products. Since they are still not used as frequently as some other kits, and perhaps due to their price, many pharmacies opt to carry the ovulation predictor kits behind the counter with the prescription medications. Often, they only have a kit if a customer comes in regularly and orders one. This may be a deterrent to many patients but it offers an even better opportunity for the pharmacist to counsel the patient about the use of the products and why she may or may not get a positive result. If the patient also buys her prescription medications at the pharmacy, the pharmacist can check to see if the patient is taking any medications which may interfere with the results of the test. This may be why many pharmacies are only special ordering ovulation predictor test kits and keep them behind the counter.
