General Information

Before the introduction of in-home ovulation prediction test kits, basal body temperature readings were used to help determine when ovulation occurred. Even with the in-home kits, basal body temperature readings are still helpful for a couple trying to conceive.

Since the basal body thermometer is the only equipment necessary in monitoring basal body temperature, this method is less expensive than the in-home ovulation prediction kits. Measuring the basal body temperature for a few months is a useful initial approach for a couple attempting to conceive. If the woman has not conceived after a few months of trying, she will at least have accurate data about her cycle length and an approximate time period in which to expect ovulation to occur. This will prove useful in selecting an ovulation predictor test kit for home use.
