1. The toilet must be flushed several times to assure that all cleansers are gone.
2. Within 5 minutes of a bowel movement, the test should be preformed. NO TOILET PAPER SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE TOILET !!!
3. Open foil patch at the notch. Place the pad on top of the toilet water. There should be no blue/green color on the pad at this time. If there is a blue/green color, do not use this toilet for testing.
4. Have a bowel movement and do not flush the toilet.
5. Remove another pad and place it in the toilet. The pad does not need to touch the stool directly.
6. Within 2 minutes, look for a blue/green color on the test pad. Record the results on the result card.
7. Flush the toilet.
8. For the next two bowel movements, repeat steps 4 through 7.
9. To check for test accuracy, flush the toilet, open the control package and empty the contents into the toilet water. Wait about 1 minute and drop the last test pad into the toilet. Over the next 2 minutes, a blue/green color should appear if the test is working properly. Wash your hands. Record the result.
10.Send the result card to your physician or hospital.
1. As a precaution, check to see if there are chemicals present in the water that might have given a false positive result. -flush the toilet two times, and place another test pad into the water. -watch the test area for the next two minutes for a blue/green color change. -if it turns blue/green, then there are chemicals present that could yield a false positive test result.
2. A positive test result means only that there is blood present in the stool. It does not mean that the patient has colorectal cancer. Only diagnostic testing by a physician can determine the cause of bleeding.
3. Consider that there are other factors that can cause a false positive result such as diet and/or several medications.
4. The patient should contact their physician as soon as possible to make an appointment for further testing.
1. The amount of blood in the stool was insignificant. If the patient continues to have any of the following symptoms, then they should see there physician : -any diarrhea, constipation or unexplained weight loss for a period of more than 2 weeks. -any visible sign of blood in the stool and/or bowel or stomach pain.
